Product Description: Vesicle-associated membrane protein 1 (VAMP1) is a member of the SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor) family, primarily involved in the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane, facilitating neurotransmitter release. VAMP1 is characterized by a hydrophobic carboxy-terminal sequence that anchors it to vesicle membranes and allows it to interact with other SNARE proteins, such as syntaxins and SNAP-25, forming a complex essential for synaptic transmission. Mutations in the VAMP1 gene have been linked to congenital myasthenic syndromes, which result in muscle weakness due to impaired neuromuscular transmission.
