Product Description: Scavenger receptor class B member 2 (SCARB2) is a type III glycoprotein primarily located in the limiting membranes of lysosomes and endosomes. It is composed of 478 amino acids and belongs to the CD36 family. SCARB2 plays a crucial role in membrane transportation and the reorganization of the endosomal/lysosomal compartment, shuttling between these compartments and the plasma membrane. The protein has a large extracellular domain and short cytoplasmic domains at the amino- and carboxy-terminus. SCARB2 is expressed in various tissues, including neurons in the central nervous system. Deficiencies in SCARB2 have been associated with several diseases, including action myoclonus-renal failure syndrome (AMRF) in humans and ureteric pelvic junction obstruction, deafness, and peripheral neuropathy in mice. Additionally, SCARB2 has been identified as a receptor for Enterovirus 71 (EV71), with a specific 63-amino-acid region encoded in exon 4 of the human SCARB2 gene playing an essential role in EV71 binding and infection.
