Product Description: Leucine rich repeats and guanylate kinase domain containing (LRGUK) is a protein characterized by multiple domains, including leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) and a guanylate kinase-like (GK) domain, which facilitate protein-protein interactions essential for its function in spermatogenesis. LRGUK is critically involved in several aspects of sperm development, such as acrosome attachment, shaping of the sperm head, and the early stages of axoneme assembly, which is vital for sperm tail formation and motility. It interacts with proteins like HOOK2 to regulate microtubule organization within the manchette, a structure necessary for proper sperm head shaping and tail extension. Disruption of LRGUK function impairs these processes, leading to defective sperm morphology and male infertility, as evidenced by studies showing that mutations in LRGUK result in abnormal acrosome attachment, manchette dysfunction, and failed axoneme extension, ultimately causing infertility in males.
