Product Description: Leukocyte associated immunoglobulin like receptor 2 (LAIR2) is a soluble protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, encoded by the LAIR2 gene located in the leukocyte receptor cluster on chromosome 19q13.4. Structurally, LAIR2 consists of a single Ig-like domain closely resembling that of LAIR1, but unlike LAIR1, it lacks transmembrane and intracellular signaling domains, making it a circulating, extracellular protein. Functionally, LAIR2 acts as a decoy receptor by binding to collagen in the extracellular matrix, thereby preventing LAIR1 from interacting with its ligands and blocking the inhibitory signals that would otherwise dampen immune cell activity. This mechanism is crucial for modulating immune responses, particularly in collagen-rich environments, and helps maintain a balance between immune activation and inhibition. Clinically, LAIR2's regulatory role is significant in contexts such as cancer, autoimmunity, and infection, where altered immune regulation can contribute to disease progression or immune evasion by tumors.
