Product Description: Lysine demethylase 3A (KDM3A), also known as JMJD1A, is a histone demethylase that specifically targets mono- and dimethylated lysine 9 on histone H3, playing a crucial role in gene expression regulation and transcriptional activation, particularly in hormone-dependent pathways. KDM3A is implicated in various biological processes, including spermatogenesis and metabolic regulation, contributing to obesity resistance by modulating genes such as PPARalpha and UCP1. Dysregulation of KDM3A has been associated with several diseases, notably cancer, it facilitates chemoresistance and cancer stemness by demethylating key proteins like p53, thereby inhibiting apoptotic pathways. Additionally, KDM3A's overexpression is linked to prostate cancer progression through its interaction with androgen receptors and hypoxia-inducible factors, making it a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment. Protein Function: Histone demethylase that specifically demethylates 'Lys-9' of histone H3, thereby playing a central role in histone code. Preferentially demethylates mono- and dimethylated H3 'Lys-9' residue, with a preference for dimethylated residue, while it has weak or no activity on trimethylated H3 'Lys-9'. Demethylation of Lys residue generates formaldehyde and succinate. Involved in hormone-dependent transcriptional activation, by participating in recruitment to androgen-receptor target genes, resulting in H3 'Lys-9' demethylation and transcriptional activation. Involved in spermatogenesis by regulating expression of target genes such as PRM1 and TNP1 which are required for packaging and condensation of sperm chromatin.
