Product information "Anti-Human GAL Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Galanin peptides (GAL) are a family of neuropeptides, widely expressed in the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as in non-neuronal tissues. The galanin family includes several members, such as galanin itself, galanin-like peptide (GALP), and alarin, which all interact with three G protein-coupled receptors (GALR1, GALR2, and GALR3). Galanin plays a crucial role in various physiological functions, including modulation of neurotransmitter release, regulation of pain perception, appetite control, and cognitive processes. Dysregulation of galanin signaling has been implicated in several diseases. For instance, elevated levels of galanin have been associated with neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy, where it may contribute to neuroprotection or exacerbate seizures. Additionally, alterations in galanin expression are linked to mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, as well as metabolic disorders like obesity. Protein Function: Endocrine hormone of the central and peripheral nervous systems that binds and activates the G protein-coupled receptors GALR1, GALR2, and GALR3. This small neuropeptide may regulate diverse physiologic functions including contraction of smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract, growth hormone and insulin release and adrenal secretion [The Uniprot Consortium]
