Product information "Anti-Human EFEMP1 Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Epidermal growth factor-containing fibulin-like extracellular matrix protein 1 (EFEMP1) is a glycoprotein that belongs to the fibulin family, characterized by multiple epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats and a fibulin-type domain. This protein is primarily involved in the structural organization of the extracellular matrix, influencing cell adhesion, migration, and tissue integrity. EFEMP1 is expressed in various tissues, including the retina, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining retinal structure and function. The protein's EGF-like domains are thought to interact with cell surface receptors, modulating signaling pathways that are essential for cellular processes such as proliferation and differentiation. EFEMP1 is notably involved in the development of retinal structures, and mutations in the EFEMP1 gene are linked to Doyne honeycomb retinal dystrophy. Additionally, EFEMP1 has been implicated in various cancers, including endometrial carcinoma and gliomas, where it acts as a tumor suppressor, its downregulation is associated with increased tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis. Protein Function: Binds EGFR, the EGF receptor, inducing EGFR autophosphorylation and the activation of downstream signaling pathways. May play a role in cell adhesion and migration. May function as a negative regulator of chondrocyte differentiation. In the olfactory epithelium, it may regulate glial cell migration, differentiation and the ability of glial cells to support neuronal neurite outgrowth [The Uniprot Consortium]
