Product Description: Ectodysplasin A receptor (EDAR) is a cell surface receptor that plays a crucial role in the development of ectodermal tissues such as skin, hair, nails, teeth, and sweat glands. It is structurally related to members of the TNF receptor superfamily and interacts with ectodysplasin A (EDA) to trigger chemical signals within cells, affecting cell activities such as division, growth, and maturation. Mutations in the EDAR gene can lead to hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED), a condition characterized by oligotrichosis (sparse hair), edentulosis or oligodontia (missing or few teeth), and oligohidrosis or anhidrosis (reduced or absent sweat glands). The EDAR receptor is part of a signaling pathway critical for ectoderm-mesoderm interactions during embryonic development, and its dysfunction can result in the improper formation of ectodermal structures.
