Product information "Anti-Human CNTN5 Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Contactin 5 (CNTN5) is a neural cell adhesion molecule belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, characterized by a single subunit structure with multiple distinct domains, including several immunoglobulin-like domains. It is a cell-surface protein with multiple isoforms and plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of neural circuits, particularly during early brain development. CNTN5 is strongly expressed in forebrain structures such as the thalamus and caudate putamen, where it contributes to thalamocortical connectivity and synaptic maintenance from embryonic stages into adulthood. Functionally, its cell adhesion properties are essential for proper circuit formation and neuronal connectivity. Alterations in CNTN5 expression or function have been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and genetic variants in CNTN5 are associated with increased risk and progression of sporadic Alzheimer's disease, as well as changes in synaptic markers and disease biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid. Protein Function: Contactins mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. Has some neurite outgrowth-promoting activity in the cerebral cortical neurons but not in hippocampal neurons. Probably involved in neuronal activity in the auditory system (By similarity) [The Uniprot Consortium]
