Product Description: CD81 is a tetraspanin protein that plays important roles in various cellular processes and diseases. CD81 is expressed in many cell types and forms complexes with other tetraspanins and integrins. It has been shown to regulate cell proliferation, motility, and metastasis in several cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, melanoma, and osteosarcoma. High CD81 expression is associated with poorer prognosis and treatment response in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. CD81 knockout promotes chemosensitivity and disrupts leukemia cell adhesion to the bone marrow microenvironment in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In hepatocellular carcinoma, KLF4-mediated upregulation of CD9 and CD81 suppresses cell proliferation. Overall, CD81 is an important regulator of cell-cell interactions and its dysregulation contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance. Protein Function: Structural component of specialized membrane microdomains known as tetraspanin-enriched microdomains (TERMs), which act as platforms for receptor clustering and signaling. Essential for trafficking and compartmentalization of CD19 receptor on the surface of activated B cells (PubMed:16449649, PubMed:20237408, PubMed:27881302).
