Product information "Anti-Human CBLIF Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Cobalamin binding intrinsic factor (CBLIF), also known as gastric intrinsic factor (GIF), is a glycoprotein produced by the parietal cells of the stomach. It plays a crucial role in the absorption of vitamin B12 (cobalamin) in the ileum of the small intestine. The protein has a single vitamin B12-binding site with a high association constant, and its interaction with cubilin is critical for the endocytosis of the CBLIF-cobalamin complex. CBLIF binds to vitamin B12, forming a complex that is then recognized and internalized by cubilin, a multiligand apical membrane protein, in the distal ileum. This process is essential for the efficient absorption of vitamin B12, as free vitamin B12 is poorly absorbed. Mutations in the CBLIF gene can lead to intrinsic factor deficiency, a rare inheritable disease characterized by malabsorption of vitamin B12 and subsequent megaloblastic anemia. Protein Function: Promotes absorption of the essential vitamin cobalamin (Cbl) in the ileum. After interaction with CUBN, the CBLIF-cobalamin complex is internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis [The Uniprot Consortium]
