Product information "Anti-Human BIK Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Bcl-2-interacting killer (BIK) is a pro-apoptotic protein and a member of the BH3-only subfamily of Bcl-2 proteins, which are critical regulators of apoptosis. Encoded by the BIK gene, this protein is primarily localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and plays a crucial role in promoting cell death by interacting with anti-apoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, thereby facilitating the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria and activating downstream caspases. Dysregulation of BIK has been implicated in various diseases, particularly cancers, where its expression is often suppressed due to chromosomal deletions or epigenetic modifications. In tumors, reduced BIK levels can lead to increased cell survival and resistance to chemotherapy. Protein Function: Accelerates programmed cell death. Association to the apoptosis repressors Bcl-X(L), BHRF1, Bcl-2 or its adenovirus homolog E1B 19k protein suppresses this death-promoting activity. Does not interact with BAX [The Uniprot Consortium]
