Product information "Anti-Human beta-2-Microglobulin Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Beta-2 microglobulin (B2M) is a component of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) molecules, which are present on the surface of all nucleated cells. It plays a crucial role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from intracellular proteins to cytotoxic T cells. Elevated levels of B2M are associated with various diseases, including multiple myeloma, lymphoma, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular diseases. In chronic kidney disease, increased B2M levels in blood and urine indicate glomerular or tubular dysfunction. Additionally, B2M has been linked to an increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and all-cause mortality, potentially due to its pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic properties. Notably, in patients undergoing long-term hemodialysis, B2M can aggregate into amyloid fibers, leading to dialysis-related amyloidosis. Protein Function: Component of the class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Involved in the presentation of peptide antigens to the immune system. Exogenously applied M.tuberculosis EsxA or EsxA-EsxB (or EsxA expressed in host) binds B2M and decreases its export to the cell surface (total protein levels do not change), probably leading to defects in class I antigen presentation (PubMed:25356553) [The Uniprot Consortium]
