Product Description: ATPase Na+/K+ transporting family member beta 4 (ATP1B4), a unique member of the Na+/K+-ATPase beta-subunit family, exhibits distinct structural and functional properties compared to its relatives. In lower vertebrates, it functions as a beta-subunit of the Na,K-ATPase ion pump at the plasma membrane, but in placental mammals, ATP1B4-encoded BetaM protein has evolved significantly. It lost its ancestral ion transport role and gained new properties as a muscle-specific protein localized to the inner nuclear membrane. This protein contains extended glutamate-rich clusters in its N-terminal domain and acts as a transcriptional coregulator during muscle development, especially in late fetal and early postnatal stages. ATP1B4's function in regulating gene expression through interaction with factors like SKIP is critical for perinatal development.
