Structurally, AK5 is a single polypeptide chain of 586 amino acids with a molecular mass of approximately 65.9 kDa, and it contains a glycine-rich region for nucleoside triphosphate binding as well as a distinct site for nucleoside monophosphate binding. AK5 is expressed predominantly in the brain, where it is involved in energy regulation and cellular differentiation.
