Product information "Anti-Human Aggrecan Antibody Pair"
Product Description: Aggrecan core protein (ACAN) is a large proteoglycan predominantly found in cartilage, playing a vital role in maintaining the structural integrity and resilience of the extracellular matrix. It consists of a core protein with multiple glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains, primarily chondroitin sulfate and keratan sulfate, which contribute to its ability to retain water and provide compressive strength to cartilage. ACAN is essential for normal cartilage function, facilitating the mechanical properties necessary for joint movement and load-bearing. Beyond its structural role, ACAN also participates in signaling pathways that regulate cell behavior and tissue homeostasis. Dysregulation or mutations in the ACAN gene have been linked to various skeletal disorders, including osteoarthritis and multiple forms of skeletal dysplasia, where impaired cartilage function leads to joint pain and mobility issues. Protein Function: This proteoglycan is a major component of extracellular matrix of cartilagenous tissues. A major function of this protein is to resist compression in cartilage. It binds avidly to hyaluronic acid via an N-terminal globular region [The Uniprot Consortium]
