Product Description: ADAM metallopeptidase domain 23 (ADAM23) is a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) family, which comprises membrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins and involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, particularly in the nervous system. ADAM23 is synthesized as a glycosylated proprotein of about 100 kDa, featuring a 506 amino acid extracellular domain that includes a nonfunctional metalloprotease domain, an integrin-binding disintegrin domain, and a cysteine-rich region, proteolytic processing yields a mature 70 kDa protein. Highly expressed in the brain, ADAM23 acts as an integrin ligand and interacts with proteins such as LGI1 and LGI4, promoting neurite outgrowth and playing a role in neurogenesis. Although ADAM23 itself lacks catalytic activity, it regulates neuronal differentiation by activating specific signaling pathways in neural progenitor cells. Clinically, high methylation of the ADAM23 gene has been associated with increased aggressiveness in gastric tumors, suggesting a potential role in cancer progression.
