Soy Peptone Yeast Extract Agar is a modification of Sabouraud Medium and was formulated by Carmichael and Claus 1,2 to selectively isolate Trichophyton verrucosum, a fungus associated with ringworm infections. Soy Peptone Yeast Extract Agar contains streptomycin and chloramphenicol which inhibits bacteria but allows the detection of fungal pathogens.
