Blood Agar Base, Low pH (Powder)

Cultivate a wide variety of bacteria, usually prepared with blood to observe hemolytic reactions. Description: These Blood Base media contain highly nutritious extracts or digests of beef. The beef products supply vitamins, carbohydrates, salts and other organic nitrogen compounds. Other peptones provide additional growth factors. Sodium chloride provides essential ions and electrolyte balance. Lowering pH to 6.8 enhances hemolytic reactions of streptococci. Storage: Store the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 30.0°C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color.
