Cell Culture Media

The development of cell culture media is as old as the cell culture itself and is continuously expanded. These media exist in countless variations and formats, as the exact composition always depends on the cultured cell type. In general, cell culture media are manufactured in a way, which allows growth, proliferation, differentiation as well as the execution of typical cellular functions. Such basal culture media usually contain amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts and different buffer mixtures. Moreover, pH-indicators as well as serum (e.g. fetal bovine serum) as a source for hormones, proteins, lipids and microelements are often added to these media. Besides, there is a range of diverse selection, growth and minimal media for specific cell types and experimental setups.

Dulbecco's MEM (DMEM) w/o Glucose, Glutamine, Serine,...

Item number: D9802-01.10

Dulbecco's MEM is the most widely used modification of BME. It contains a 4-fold higher concentration of amino acids and vitamins. Non-essential amino acids and certain essential trace elements were added. The bicarbonate concentration was increased. The standard formula for DMEM is with 1000mg/ml glucose. DMEM was...

McCoy's 5A (without phenol red, with HEPES)

Item number: E-PM150715.500

Background: McCoy's 5A medium was initially used specifically for the culture of Novikoff Hepatoma cells. Unlike other medium, mcCoy's 5A medium contains reduced glutathione, bacterial peptone and high concentrations of glucose. McCoy's 5A is widely used in the culture of primary cells, such as bone marrow, skin,...

DMEM/F12 (with HEPES)
DMEM/F12 (with HEPES)

Item number: E-PM150310.500

Background: The DMEM/F12 medium is based on the DMEM medium, adding more nutritious elements from F12 medium, which contains a variety of trace elements, and is widely used in the culture of many mammalian cells. At the same time, DMEM/F12 medium is often used as the basis for the development of serum-free medium....
