Anti-POU3F2

POU3F2 is a developmental neural cell-specific POU domain transcription factor and is crucial for cell lineage determination. In melanoma lesions, cells expressing high levels of POU3F2 show enhanced invasive and metastatic capacity that can in part be explained by repression of MITF (Micropthalmia-associated Transcription Factor) expression via POU3F2 binding to its promoter. POU3F2 is expressed exclusively in the central nervous system, more specifically in post-mitotic neurons and glia. Protein function: Transcription factor that plays a key role in neuronal differentiation. Binds preferentially to the recognition sequence which consists of two distinct half-sites, ('GCAT') and ('TAAT'), separated by a non-conserved spacer region of 0, 2, or 3 nucleotides. The combination of three transcription factors, ASCL1, POU3F2/BRN2 and MYT1L, is sufficient to reprogram fibroblasts and other somatic cells into induced neuronal (iN) cells in vitro. Acts downstream of ASCL1, accessing chromatin that has been opened by ASCL1, and promotes transcription of neuronal genes. [The UniProt Consortium]
