Zellkulturmedien

Die Entwicklung von Zellkulturmedien ist praktisch so alt wie die Zellkultur selbst und wird kontinuierlich ausgeweitet. Diese Medien gibt es in zahllosen Variationen und Ausführungen, da die genaue Zusammensetzung immer von dem zu kultivierenden Zelltyp abhängig ist. Generell sind Zellkulturmedien so beschaffen, dass sie das Wachstum, die Proliferation, die Differenzierung sowie die Ausführung typischer Funktionen der Zellen erlauben. Solche Basalnährmedien enthalten in aller Regel Aminosäuren, Vitamine, anorganische Salze und verschiedene Puffergemische. Außerdem werden diesen Medien oftmals pH-Wert-Indikatoren sowie Serum (z.B. fötales Rinderserum) als Quelle für Hormone, Proteine, Lipide und Spurenelemente beigefügt. Darüber hinaus gibt es eine ganze Reihe an unterschiedlichen Selektions-, Wachstums- und Minimalmedien für spezifische Zelltypen und experimentelle Anforderungen.
