Source : E. coli,Platelet-derived growth factor alpha (PDGFA) is a member of PDGF family. PDGFA can form disulfide-linked homodimer or heterodimer with PDGFB. PDGF proteins mediate diverse cellular functions by binding to and inducing the homo- or hetero-dimerization of two receptors (PDGF R alpha and R beta). PDGFA is expressed in multiple cell types, tissues and is upregulated in various cancers. It is proposed that PDGFA can play a key role in the development and progression of tumor growth by regulating cell proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis. Protein function: Growth factor that plays an essential role in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation, cell migration, survival and chemotaxis. Potent mitogen for cells of mesenchymal origin. Required for normal lung alveolar septum formation during embryogenesis, normal development of the gastrointestinal tract, normal development of Leydig cells and spermatogenesis. Required for normal oligodendrocyte development and normal myelination in the spinal cord and cerebellum. Plays an important role in wound healing.
