Farbstoffe und Labeling-Reagenzien
Diese Kategorie umfasst Chemikalien für die dauerhafte sowie die temporäre Markierung von Organellen, Proteinen und anderen Molekülen. Dazu zählt beispielsweise die kovalente Verknüpfung eines Zielproteins, etwa eines Antikörpers, mit einem Fluoreszenzfarbstoff/Fluorophor. Dies ermöglicht dessen Detektion in mikroskopischen Experimenten. Zum Zwecke der Detektion können Proteine auch mit Reporter-Enzymen (bspw. HRP) oder radioaktiven Markern gekoppelt werden. Zur Aufreinigung eines Proteins besteht unter anderem die Möglichkeit das Protein mit Biotin zu markieren und durch Streptavidin zu isolieren.
