Interleukin 16, Neuronal, Control Peptide (NIL-16)

The neuronal version of human IL-16 (NIL-16), identical to the splenocyte-derived pro IL-16 in its C-terminal 624 amino acids, has an N-terminal portion containing multiple PDZ domains. mRNA for NIL-16 has been localized to cerebellar and hippocampal neurons. It is thought that NIL-16 plays a dual role by serving as a clustering protein for ion channels as well as signaling molecule after proteolysis by caspase-3.
