Anti-Syndecan-1 (CD138, SDC, SYND1, Syndecan)

Syndecan-1 is a transmembrane (Type I) heparan sulfate proteoglycan and is a member of the syndecan proteoglycan family. The syndecans mediate cell binding, cell signaling, and cytoskeletal organization. Bearing properties of both heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, Syndecan-1 functions as a cell surface proteoglycan membrane protein and participates in cell proliferation, cell migration and cell-matrix interactions via its receptor for extracellular matrix proteins. Altered Syndecan-1 expression has been detected in several different tumor types. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Western Blot: 1:1000 using mouse liver lysate. Proteins were visualized using a IgG (HRP) Dk x Rb and chemiluminescence detection. A dimer of Syndecan-1 was identified at ~77kD while monomeric Syndecan-1 is visible at ~32kD. The mature form, with heparan and chondroitin sulfate addtions, can sometimes be seen between 500-1000kD but may need to be solubilized from whole tissues by urea extraction. Triton X-100 or other mild detergents are enough to release the immature precursor forms., Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
