Anti-MUC-1 (EMA, Epithelial Membrane Antigen Mucin-1 )

The alpha subunit has cell adhesive properties. It can act both as an adhesion and an anti-adhesion protein. EMA may provide a protective layer on epithelial cells against bacterial and enzyme attack. The beta subunit contains a C-terminal domain, which is involved in cell signaling, through phosphorylation s and protein-protein interactions. In immunohistochemical assays, it superbly stains routine formalin/paraffin carcinoma tissues. Antibody to EMA is useful as a pan-epithelial marker for detecting early metastatic loci of carcinoma in bone marrow or liver. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Flow Cytometry, Western Blot, Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Flow Cytometry: 0.5-1ug/10e6 cells, Immunofluorescence: 0.5-1ug/ml, Immunohistochemistry (FFPE): 0.1-0.2ug/ml for 30 min at RT, (Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM citrate buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes), Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: MCF-7 or MDA-231 cells. Breast, colon, ovarian or endometrial carcinoma. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
