ST6GAL1 is a 47-49kD member of the glycosyltransferase 29 family of proteins. It is principally expressed in hepatocytes, placenta and skeletal muscle, and may be unique in its ability to generate Sia-a-2, 6-Gal structures on liver proteins. Human ST6GAL1 is a 406aa type II transmembrane protein that resides in Golgi membranes. It contains a short cytoplasmic segment (aa1-9) and an extended luminal domain (aa27-406) that possesses a phosphorylation site at Tyr369. ST6GAL1 undergoes BACE1-mediated cleavage to generate a 364aa, 52-53kD soluble form. This acts within the Golgi lumen to glycosylate proteins destined for secretion. There is one potential alternative start site at Met232. Over aa27-406, human ST6GAL1 shares 75aa identity with mouse ST6GAL1. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1ug/ml, Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile PBS. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
