Fungisel Agar (Powder)

Selective medium with nearly neutral pH, used to isolate pathogenic fungi. Description: Fungisel agar contains chloramphenicol and cycloheximide. These antibiotics selectively inhibit saprophytic fungi and bacteria while allowing pathogenic fungi to grow. Various workers demonstrated the use of these antibiotics in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and other media for the isolation of pathogenic fungi from specimens with mixed flora. Storage: Store the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 8.0°C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color. Appearance: Light beige, homogeneous, free flowing powder.
