(Z)-9-Hexadecenol is an unsaturated long chain fatty alcohol that has been found in pheromone gland extracts from H. assulta and has diverse biological activities. It is virucidal against herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) when used at a concentration of 10 mM. (Z)-9-Hexadecenol is active against the bacterium S. mutans (MIC = 1.56 µg/ml).
