Taraxerol

A pentacyclic triterpene with diverse biological activities, reduces proliferation of MDA-MB-468 and SK-BR-3 breast cancer cells (IC50s = 100.5 µM and 84.48 µM, respectively), inhibits Nrf2, promotes degradation of GPX4, and induces ferroptosis in MDA-MB-468 and SK-BR-3 cells, reduces tumor growth in an SK-BR-3 mouse xenograft model at 10 mg/kg, reduces the levels of COX-2 and iNOS in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages at 20 and 40 µM, decreases the production of nitrite, PGE2, IL-6, IL-1beta, and TNF-alpha in the same cells, reduces hyperglycemia in a rat model of high-fat diet- and STZ-induced type 2 diabetes, increases skeletal muscle PI3K and GLUT4 levels and IRS-1, Akt, and AMPK phosphorylation in the same model.
