Coprostanol is a cholesterol derivative formed in mammals by intestinal microorganisms and is the odorous compound in feces. It is formed via conversion of cholesterol to cholestenone (Cay-25713) then coprostanone intermediates or by direct reduction of the 5,6 double bond.
