A prodrug form of N-glutaryl-L-alanine and a GGCT inhibitor, reduces the viability of UM-UC-3 and T24 cells (IC50s = 58.5 and 57 µM, respectively) and RT-112 cells, which have a high expression of GGCT (IC50 = 73.9 µM), enhances mitomycin C-induced growth of RT-112 cells, inhibits the proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cells at 50, 75, and 100 µM, increases ROS production and induces senescence in MCF-7 cells, effects that can be blocked by NAC, reduces tumor weight in an MCF-7 mouse xenograft model at 25 mg/kg.
