Klotho-derived Peptide 6 (acetate)

Klotho-derived peptide 6 (KP6) is a synthetic peptide fragment that corresponds to amino acids 186-215 of the anti-aging protein Klotho. It inhibits Wnt1-induced increases in fibronectin and alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) levels in HKC-8 human proximal tubular cells. KP6 (5 µg/ml) also inhibits Wnt3a-induced activation of beta-catenin in a reporter assay using HEK293T cells. In vivo, KP6 (1 mg/kg) increases survival and decreases urine albumin levels, renal hypertrophy, and glomerular injury in a mouse model of diabetic kidney disease induced by streptozotocin (STZ, Cay13104), advanced oxidation protein products, and unilateral nephrectomy.
