Product Description: C-C motif chemokine 21 (CCL21), also known as secondary lymphoid-tissue chemokine (SLC), is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family, characterized by its six conserved cysteine residues. It primarily functions as a chemotactic factor that guides CCR7-expressing leukocytes, such as T cells and dendritic cells, to secondary lymphoid organs like lymph nodes and Peyer's patches. CCL21 is constitutively expressed in these tissues but its expression can increase during inflammatory responses. Dysregulation of CCL21 has been linked to several diseases, particularly autoimmune disorders, where altered leukocyte trafficking can contribute to pathogenesis. Additionally, CCL21 has been implicated in cancer metastasis, as it may facilitate the migration of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and dendritic cells to lymph nodes, affecting tumor immunity. Protein Function: Inhibits hemopoiesis and stimulates chemotaxis. Chemotactic in vitro for thymocytes and activated T-cells, but not for B-cells, macrophages, or neutrophils. Shows preferential activity towards naive T-cells. May play a role in mediating homing of lymphocytes to secondary lymphoid organs.
