Product Description: Ran GTPase activating protein 1 (RANGAP1) is a 65-kDa homodimeric enzyme encoded by the RANGAP1 gene in humans, consisting of 587 amino acids. It plays a crucial role in nucleocytoplasmic transport by specifically stimulating the GTPase activity of Ran, a small GTP-binding protein, thereby facilitating the conversion of Ran-GTP to Ran-GDP. This activity is essential for the regulation of protein and RNA trafficking between the nucleus and cytoplasm, as well as for processes such as spindle assembly and mitotic cell cycle regulation. RANGAP1 acts as the immediate antagonist of RCC1, maintaining the balance of Ran's active and inactive states, and requires association with a small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) for localization at the nuclear pore.
