Product Description: Glutamate decarboxylase 2 (GAD2), also known as GAD65, is a cytoplasmic enzyme primarily located in neurons, particularly associated with cytoplasmic vesicles, the cytosolic side of Golgi membranes, and presynaptic clusters. GAD2 catalyzes the decarboxylation of L-glutamic acid to produce gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, utilizing pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. This enzyme plays a critical role in neurotransmitter biosynthesis, synaptic transmission, and the regulation of inhibitory signaling in the brain.
