Product Description: FKBP prolyl isomerase 5 (FKBP5) is a protein that belongs to the immunophilin family and plays a crucial role in immunoregulation and basic cellular processes involving protein folding and trafficking. It is a cis-trans prolyl isomerase that binds to the immunosuppressants FK506 and rapamycin, mediating calcineurin inhibition. FKBP5 interacts functionally with mature corticoid receptor hetero-complexes and the 90 kDa heat shock protein, influencing steroid hormone receptor responsiveness and stress endocrinology. FKBP5 has been associated with a higher rate of depressive disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, with decreased methylation in the promoter region observed in patients with these conditions. The protein is also an attractive drug target for stress-related disorders, chronic pain, and obesity, with selective inhibitors like SAFit2 showing promising effects in animal models.
