Product Description: Exonuclease 1 (EXO1) is a crucial enzyme involved in DNA metabolism, specifically in DNA repair and replication. It exhibits 5' to 3' exonuclease activity, allowing it to degrade single-stranded and double-stranded DNA, and possesses RNase activity, which enables it to cleave RNA on DNA/RNA hybrids. EXO1 plays a significant role in the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) pathway and homologous recombination, where it is essential for processing DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) during meiosis and mitosis. Dysregulation of EXO1 has been associated with several diseases, particularly cancer. For instance, mutations or altered expression of EXO1 can lead to genomic instability, contributing to tumorigenesis in various cancers, including colorectal and breast cancers.
