Product Description: ADAM metallopeptidase domain 22 (ADAM22) is a member of the ADAM (A Disintegrin And Metalloprotease) family, which consists of membrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins and involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. ADAM22 is characterized by a disintegrin and metalloprotease-like domain, but it lacks critical catalytic residues, rendering it proteolytically inactive. Its structure includes three calcium-binding sites, with one regulatory and two structural, and features modular movement due to discontinuous hydrophilic interactions between domains. ADAM22 is highly expressed in the brain, where it likely functions as an integrin ligand and plays a role in neurogenesis and synaptic function. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants, and the protein interacts with DLG4, a synaptic scaffolding protein. Clinically, mutations in ADAM22 have been associated with early infantile epileptic encephalopathy (EIEE61). Protein Function: Probable ligand for integrin in the brain.
