Product information "Retinol-Binding Protein 4 Protein (recombinant human)"
Activity: Measured by its ability to bind all-trans retinoic acid. The binding of retinoic acid results in the quenching of Trp fluorescence in RBP4.The 50% binding concentration (BC50) is > 1.0 ¦ÌM Protein Construction: Recombinant Human Retinol-Binding Protein 4 is produced by our E.coli expression system and the target gene encoding Glu19-Leu201 is expressed. Sequence: Glu19-Leu201. Endotoxin: < 1.0 EU per µg as determined by the LAL method. Apparent Molecular Mass: 20 kDa. Protein function: Retinol Binding Protein 4 (RBP4) is a member of the Lipocalin family and in the blood. RBP4 is the specific vector for retinol. RBP4 is expressed and secreted by adipose tissue, and is associated with insulin resistance. RBP4 delivers retinol from the liver stores to the peripheral tissues. In plasma, the RBP-retinol complex interacts with transthyretin to prevents its loss by filtration through the kidney glomeruli. Defects in RBP4 cause retinol-binding protein deficiency and can cause night vision problems. Protein function: Retinol-binding protein that mediates retinol transport in blood plasma (PubMed:5541771). Delivers retinol from the liver stores to the peripheral tissues (Probable). Transfers the bound all-trans retinol to STRA6, that then facilitates retinol transport across the cell membrane (PubMed:22665496). [The UniProt Consortium]
