Product information "Tetracycline Hydrochloride USP"
Tetracycline is an antibiotic which has the ability to inhibit the growth of wide variety of organisms, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, rickettsias, mycoplasmas, chlamydias, and certain viruses, protozoa, and actinomycetes. It interferes with the production of proteins that the bacteria need to multiply and divide (bacteriostatic). Tetracycline Hydrochloride mode of action is as a protein synthesis inhibitor via an aminoacyl-tRNA binding mechanism to the 30S subunit. Mode of resistance is the loss of cell wall permeability. Synonyms: [4S-(4alpha,4aalpha,5aalpha,6beta,12aalpha]-4-(Dimethylamino)-1,4,4a,5,5a,6,11,12a, -octahydro-3,6,10,12,12a-pentahydroxy-6-methyl-1,11-dioxo-2-Naphthacenecarboxamide Hydrochloride, (-)-Tetracycline Hydrochloride, Achromycin, Imex, Tetracyn, CAS Number: 64-75-5, Molecular Formula: C22H24N2O8HCl, Molecular Weight: 480.90, Applications: Recommended for use in cell culture applications against gram-negative bacteria. Recommended Dilutions: Cell Culture:, 10mg/L. Stable at 37°C for 4 days. Solubility: Water soluble at 5-10g/100ml., Soluble in methanol and ethanol but is insoluble in ether and hydrocarbons. In water, yields a clear, yellow-orange solution with heating and in 95% ethanol, 50mg dissolved in 4ml with heating yields a clear, yellow-green solution. Tetracycline is rapidly destroyed by alkali hydroxide solutions and standing water solutions become turbid due to hydrolysis and precipitation. The potency of tetracycline is reduced in solutions with pH below 2. Conforms to the following USP28 References: Appearance:, Yellow crystalline powder, Purity: 95-105%, Potency (Assay): >900ug/mg, Identification A (IR): Conforms, Identification B (UV): Conforms, Identification C (HPLC): Conforms, Crystallinity: Conforms, Loss on Drying: <2%, Heavy Metals: <0.005%, 4-Epianhydrotetracycline: <2%, Anhydrotetracycline: <0.5%, pH (10mg/ml): 1.8-2.8, Specific Optical Rotation: -240 to -255°, Individual Related Substance: < 3%, Total Unknown Related Substance: < 5%, Bulk Density: 0.42-0.55g/ml, Residual Solvent: acetone: < 0.02%, n-butanol: < 0.2%, Tallow Derivatives: Produced on the basis of chemical synthetic process, no any animal material contained during the whole production process and also no raw materials are used which are generated from animals during production. Storage & Stability: Store frozen below 0°C and protected from light and moisture. In these conditions, the product has been shown to retain activity for 4 years. Stock solutions should be stored at -20°C and are stable at 37°C for 4 days.
