IRAK4 has a molecular weight of 50kD, and is an important mediator in the signal transduction of Toll-like receptor (TLR) and interleukin-1 (IL-1) receptor family members. IRAK4 functions in this signal transduction pathway by binding to the IL-1 type I receptor following IL-1 engagement, triggering intracellular signalling cascades leading to transcriptional up-regulation and mRNA stabilization. , IRAK4 is a key activator of TLR-mediated signal transductions and has crucial roles in innate immune responses.
