Immunoglobulins and Isotype Controls

Non-specific immunoglobulins or isotype controls are often used as standards or controls in antibody-based experiments. They include all proteins of an antibody class (eg. IgG or IgM ) or subclass (eg. IgG1 ) purified from a host or cell line. Isotype controls are used, for example, as negative controls in immunohistochemistry (IHC) and flow cytometry (FC, FACS), where the properties should match those of the primary antibody used.
