In response to the presence of allergens, this protein directly promotes the accumulation of eosinophils (a prominent feature of allergic inflammatory reactions), but not lymphocytes, macrophages or neutrophils. (www.uniprot.org) Produced in E.coli as a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 74 amino acids. CCL11 selectively recruits eosinophils by inducing their chemotaxis, and therefore, is implicated in allergic responses.
