Anti-HIV-1 p24, Core (Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1)

Capsid protein p24 forms the conical core of the virus that encapsulates the genomic RNA-nucleocapsid complex. Structural studies demonstrated two distinct domains (N and C-terminal domains) that have different roles in the virus morphogenesis. Additionally, the level of p24 found in the blood serum is used as an indicator of HIV progression. HIV-1 performs highly complex orchestrated tasks during the assembly, budding, maturation and infection stages of the viral replication cycle. During viral assembly, the proteins form membrane associations and self-associations that ultimately result in budding of an immature virion from the infected cell. Gag precursors also function during viral assembly to selectively bind and package two plus strands of genomic RNA. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Hybridoma: Sp2/0 AG14 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C for short-term only. Reconstitute with sterile 40-50% glycerol, ddH2O. Aliquot and store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
